One of the commenters of my original post noted that they enjoyed listening to Waved Out while driving late at night, as the album matched the mood so well. Listening to Waved Out while putting together this updated rating, I was amazed by how well everything just fit together. In fact, if there are two songs that are out of place, they are the amazing Make Use and Subspace Biographies...
Waved Out includes two of Robert Pollard's best songs; the aforementioned Make Use and Subspace Biographies. Those two tracks makes this essential GBV listening on their own, but the rest of the album is held together by this general vibe that, like that commenter noted, fits so well with a dark drive. Waved Out might be one of Pollard's most tightly held albums from a thematic perspective, and there are tracks that though not as instantly great like Make Use or Subspace Biographies, grow into being pretty amazing over time. Whiskey Ships, Steeple of Knives, and the title track Waved Out all have made live setlists at different points, and for good reason.
There was a time I called Waved Out my favorite Pollard solo album, but more recently Not in My Airforce has been getting more playtime from me. Either way, it is still an amazing album. Here is the updated ranking:
Among Bob's Best
01 Make Use
04 Subspace Biographies
Gems
07 Whiskey Ships
Almost Gems
06 Waved Out
08 Wrinkled Ghost
11 Steeple of Knives
12 Rumbling Joker

02 Vibrations in the Woods
03 Just Say the Word
05 Caught Waves Again

Given the scoring above, the album would get 15 points total (and an average of 3.47).
